New: Search for Apartments Near Second Avenue Subway
For many weary, commute-harried New Yorkers, the newly opened Second Avenue subway line has been met with overwhelming positivity and warmth – a rare reception for this time of year in the city. According to Curbed, “The Second Avenue Subway Wows Commuters;” The New York Times calls it “a train dream come true” and Wired exhorts its readers to “Step Into the Comfiness of the Second Avenue Subway (Yes, Comfiness.)”
Search for listings near the new line
In anticipation of Second Avenue subway’s opening, last November we released a comprehensive study the impact the new line will have on the rental market around Second Avenue. In addition, we updated our site’s search functionality so buyers and renters can find listings near the new subway line by using our advanced search filters.
Our new maps allow you to see how close listings are to the Second Avenue subway
To do so, users should set their area criteria to “All Upper East Side” and then check off the Q line in “the nearby transit options” dropdown. This will populate all listings that fall within .5 miles of any of three new stations along Second Avenue at East 72nd Street, East 86th Street and East 96th Street.
You can now filter your listing search by proximity to the Q line
In the search results view, you will be able to see the exact distance to the nearest station along Second Avenue. When you click into the listing page itself, you will again see this information at the bottom of the page in the nearby transportation section. Additionally, the map at the bottom right of the page will also feature the new subway line as will all maps across the site. To view this transportation information, you must zoom in.
Other StreetEasy updates to transportation data
On top of these updates, StreetEasy has made two more updates to our transportation data to reflect recent changes in the MTA’s service options. Since the Q train is being removed from the Astoria Line and Lexington Line, users will no longer see listings near stations in Queens and near the 59th Street and Lexington Avenue station when they filter for transportation options by the Q.
